Photography

I have used photography to explore concepts inspired by media, life, fun and fear over years of work.

 Lifting the Veil

This collection of photos explored my complicated relationship with the concept of marriage. As a queer woman who attended catholic schooling there is also a religious element explored in this work. The historical ties of the patriarchy to marriage echo into modern society, making marriage feel like a trap for traditional life. This complexity is deepened by feelings of guilt: of ingratitude for the strong LGBTQI+ community members who fought tirelessly for the right to marry. My sister models the veil in this collection, exploring the symbol of a veil as a beautiful, yet claustrophobic trap. The purity of a white dress and veil is something I find hard to connect with, as someone condemned as a sinner by the very church I was raised in. Drawing inspiration from Photographer Tracey Moffatt's Scarred for Life series, I utilised captions to provide context with lyrics from musicians who have explored this topic.

Disappear

This body of work explores themes of wishing to disappear. Drawing inspiration from famous works such as Australian Gothic cult classic Picnic at Hanging Rock, these photos asks us to disappear alongside the subject, into the thick Australian Bush.

Prom

This more colourful collection of photos, inspired by classic 80's filmography, hints at a prom night that has not quite gone to plan.

Ophelia

One of my earlier forrays into photography, this work draws inspiration from painting 'Ophelia' by Sir John Millais in 1851-2.
